Our In-House Breeding Program:

It all starts with our in-house breeding facility and team. They create an average of 24 new strains per year, many built upon previous household-name strains that we created. This gives us the ability to capitalize on—and even create trends--not merely chase them as most nurseries and cultivators do. Finally, the scaled output of our in-house Breeding Program allows us to “bank” promising cultivars to launch at a later date, as consumer tastes continue to evolve.

To support our team of experienced breeding professionals, we operate seven independent, self-contained breeding rooms within our R&D nursery facility, empowering our team to run multiple breeding projects simultaneously. This in turn makes us much faster to market with new cultivars than most breeders.

It’s not surprising given our commitment to breeding that our in-house team have a history of success, with cultivars from Phinest Genetics regularly recognized by industry publications and award shows.

Third-Party Breeder Partners

In addition to our in-house program and facilities, we operate the industry’s largest and most successful third-party breeder licensing program. With the ability to cherry-pick among hundreds of new strains each year from renowned breeders across the country, this program ensures that Phinest delivers multiple winning strains annually.

This program attracts the very best by providing a structured, professional environment where breeders can have their work objectively evaluated and thoroughly characterized. Signing lucrative long-term agreements with GCI gives breeders motivation to create award winning strains, which provides mutual security. It also allows both the breeder and Phinest Cannabis to collaborate on social media, event marketing and other strategies to build hype for their strains.

Beyond lucrative royalties, our program facilitates transparency and communications with breeders. It’s important for breeders to see the progress of their genetics as they advance through our lengthy characterization and go-to-market process. For this reason, we created a first-of-its-kind Breeder Portal. By logging onto a secure, password-protected site, a breeder can see where each of their strains are being tested, see photos of progress, view ongoing test results, read growers notes and more.

People not familiar with the history of California cannabis are often surprised by just how many household name cultivars were first introduced to the market as Phinest clones.

In fact, Phinest is the world’s only cannabis nursery with its own Genetics Hall of Fame.
